I strongly encourage you to keep experimenting. Remember that by tackling your maladaptive behaviors you will experience less distress in the long-term, and you will have more time available to spend on productive and beneficial behaviors. You are likely to see a big improvement in your mood and overall well-being. Although challenging these behaviors will be very difficult at first, the more you do it, the easier it will become. Eventually it will become another habit (although an adaptive one instead of a maladaptive one). The main message is to look at the consequence of each behavior, and see if they change when you change your behaviors.
Change is hard. Life is one big experiment, but awareness of our behaviors and their consequences is a huge step towards taking control of our lives.
